Between the Rhythms by Joshua Pierre
This story follows two people: 1) a young woman going out with her girl friends as they look to have a fun night after she returned home from living with her ex. 2) young man looking to forget the fact that his woman cheated on him and then he removed himself from the apartment, where she is now living with the man she cheated with. On their night out they come across each other on the dance floor and begin to catch a vibe and realize that the night is driven by the few times they choose to keep dancing together; in-between the songs, their friends try to get them into other things and explore for themselves what else is out there. Towards the end, it isn’t revealed if they actually decide to end up together, but the focus is more their relief and vibes while carelessly getting lost together on the dance floor, which they really needed.
This is a short film in my head. Not necessarily a story but the more I write about it the more I start to imagine longer scenes, placing it in Vegas, making it a whole day, or even getting into more details in all the ways things are going, but it honestly would be better as a hangout movie, that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Short film with the potential for a feature is how I would describe this idea. The inspiration is really from one of my exes mentioning the scene from ‘The Rum Diary’ with Johnny Depp and Amber Heard where she just found the dancing scene attractive. When I seen it, I honestly just wanted to focus on how vibey the dancing was and the attraction developing between the two characters. There’s a fine line between the sexuality of dancing and then when it crosses to an intimate experience. This film focuses on that. I don’t see ever selling this idea, but in fact using it as a short film project to coincide with a music album I’m developing. Which is also where the next story comes into place because it also will be attached to the same music album.
The XXX Theory by Joshua Pierre
This story focuses on the three different experiences you can have with having sex with someone: 1) fucking 2) sex 3) making love. A 3 part story of character’s experiencing the three different versions of sex (for better and for worse) and seeing which one holds the most weight. It’s an experience and there’s different situations for each. Neither is better than the other or worse, just different depending on who the people are that are involved and the connection with one another. It’s possible this story can develop itself into a film, which if it does I would want to make it. This story is very interesting because it deals with everything in theory and I’m using experiences for myself and other people’s stories on the importance of each and if a distinction is even necessary. I guess it’s up to the readers impression and their own experiences that will determine that part.
NOTE: the album these projects are attached with is envisioned to come out in 2024 with a prelude spoken word project this year. This is a current project in development that is already 90% written and production is the next piece that will begin this summer; around the same time the podcast will emerge for Propaganda Ultra!
